Each week Amy, Emily and I make a "Roomie Resolution" together. They are not usually very difficult or serious, but are things we want to start including into our lives on a regular basis- so we start back focusing on these one week at a time. That way we are building good habits and not stressing out over small things. A few of the past ones have been no fried foods, no desserts, going to bed before midnight and making sure we hit the gym 3 times a week. All very good things, and not too terribly difficult to do, at least until this week...
Lately, we have gotten into the habit of abbreviating or words. And not just a few words here and there, but a TON of words. We say things like: Lib for library. Show-show for shower. Perf for perfect and so on. So this week the resolution is to NOT say any abbreviations. But it gets better, we also made it a competition. Each of us has a jar of candy on our desk. And when one of the other roommates catches you saying an abbrev, candy from your jar goes into the community jar. Sounds ridiculous, but it's good for us. No one needs to say abbreviations as much as we do. After this week I am sure we will continue saying abbreviations, the goal is to simply not say them as much as we did before. Professors don't want to hear you say that you will "Mabes" go and do that project. Trust me, I know.
